A dry well is an onsite stormwater disposal point, accomplishing the three purposes of keeping excess, clean water out of the sewer system (and thereby helping to prevent sewage overflows into the Willamette River), directing excess groundwater away from the basement foundation walls, and providing a potential source of irrigation for deep-rooting trees and bushes. A system of rain barrels will be subsequently installed to utillize roof run-off for garden watering.
